County Cider Company, in Waupoos, overlooking Lake Ontario |
They say that the
third time's the charm, and luckily for us, this phrase proved to be true this weekend. You see, Antoine and I have
attempted camping in the past, only to be washed out by incessant rain. In the need to get out of town for a 'mini-break,' we figured this long weekend would be the opportune time to give camping another go, destination
Prince Edward County. It turned out to be a fabulous time - and it
might have helped that we were a little more prepared (camping gear-wise) this time around, too ;-)
Here's a little summary, with some photos, if you care to see...
Our first stop was some cheese-tasting at the recently re-opened
Fifth Town Cheese in Waupoos, followed by pizzas from a wood-fire oven at The County Cider Company overlooking lake Ontario (view above).

Good pairing : ) |
We checked out the nearby town on
Picton (where we purchased some bread at
Regent's Cafe to go with our recently acquired cheeses) before settling into our campsite at
Presqu'ile Provincial Park.

My dad lent me some camping equipment, provided that I hang the Welsh flag at our campsite! |
 |
Lake Ontario was literally only 20 steps from our campsite. |
Breakfast the first morning was a good 'ol bacon and egg...
which gave us the fuel power to
rent bikes and head along some country roads to check out a
distillery and a
winery.

It turned out to be a hot day, so a few hours bathing in the beautiful beach that is
Sandbanks was the best way to end the day.
The next morning we noshed on some crêpes stuffed with mushrooms, leftover sausages and cheese before making the trip back to Montreal, feeling rested.
Maybe this camping business isn't so bad after all... any suggestions for a future trip?
